What is restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a species of yoga practice with props, as chairs, blocks of yoga, yoga straps, blankets, walls, etc. The props are used to help the body positions of yoga without exerting too much effort. The keyword in this type of Yoga is Restorer, and the goal is to open your body through passive stretching exercises.

It is specifically designed as an alternative smoother for more physical disciplines of Yoga to help you exercise when you feel tired and worn. The poses are adaptations of sitting poses and supine, supported by props to ensure a relaxing session. The idea is to feel relaxed and renewed during the entire session. These yoga poses are geared mainly to move the spine in different exercises to add strength and flexibility backwards, emphasizing even more ancient yogic belief that a healthy spine equals a healthy well-being.

Anyone can practice yoga Restorer, and is highly recommended if you are sick, recovering from injury or maternity, suffer from fatigue, headaches, neck problems, hypertension, indigestion, menstrual pains, etc. This specific discipline is practiced by many women as an alternative treatment for infertility, as has been shown to assist in fertility and pregnancy.

Science suggests that this particular form of yoga helps stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) which serves to balance the body and quickly restore your system responsiveness. Stimulate the PNS has demonstrated a positive effect in reducing high blood pressure and heart rate, stimulating the immune system and the endocrine system.

If you are attending a class for the first time, expect them to be very relaxing. It is also a good practice to complement most active types of yoga. The teacher will provide all the props needed so that you can perform your snippets, and since it is not as active as other types of yoga, a blanket can be wrapped around you in case it gets cold. When the props are in place you will be asked to hold the poses for about twenty minutes or more. May seem boring and repetitive, but definitely not be felt the effects of stretch the entire body.

Relaxation and stress relief are some of the positive effects of yoga practice and restorative yoga is a great way to give your body a gentle workout when you feel too tired to do more complicated types of yoga.
